Cars 2 Review and Giveaway!

Cars 2 is racing into theatres everywhere on June 24th!

This past weekend Hurricane Dad and I had the opportunity to attend a screening of Disney Pixar's lastest hit Cars 2 in 3D.  I wasn't too sure how I felt about seeing another 3D movie, as the technology left me a little flat when we saw Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.  After seeing this Pixar feature in 3D I don't know that I would have wanted to any other way.  The combined technologies of Pixar's cutting edge animation style with Real 3D produces nothing less than a spectacular viewing experience.  With the added depth at times it was easy to forget you were watching animation.  We also were treated a preview of The Lion King in 3D, and it was very worthwhile.

I can say without a doubt that in my opinion this 12th feature-length animated film from this Academy and Golden Globe Award winning studio is another smash hit.  Once again pushing the edge with it's eco-based storyline,  Pixar takes us on a fast paced action adventure around the world with Lightning McQueen and his best friend Tow Mater.  In fact for my husband and I the "sub-plot" of Mater becoming a spy took center stage and really drove the action as well as the comedy in the movie.  Fans of Mater (voice of Larry the Cable Guy) will not be disappointed as their anti-hero works to save the day along side super spy Finn McMissile (voice of Michael Caine) while Lightning searches his soul to figure out what it means to be a good friend.

John Lasseter once again the driver’s seat to direct this Cars film and his legendary creativity doesn't disappoint.  I thought that the film successfully breached the difficult gap between keeping the attention of adults and children alike, by creating a kid friendly story of friendship that kept the adults laughing right along side their youngsters.  There were many hidden gems from a wide variety of Pixar's Films to be found throughout, so you can be sure that easter egg hunters will not be disappointed.

I wasn't a huge fan of the first Cars movie, but Cars 2 was a fantastic romp around the globe set to some really rockin' music, that kept me laughing along the way.  Cars 2 opens in theaters everywhere on this Friday  June 24th, see it!

  1. My favorite Car was Doc Hudson. I love the "grumpy old man" vibe he gives off. I also enjoyed that despite McQueen's arrogance he tried to help him and coach him before McQueen really knew who he was. Then, of course, he was there for him in the end.

Mater would be my second... he just cracks me up and is such a good natured "person", er.. Car? Whatever, you know what I mean! :-)

  2. Cars is very dear to me; it was the first movie Carlos, Ian and I went to see together. We laughed so hard during the tractor-tipping scene I thought we'd get thrown out of the theater. Looking forward to seeing it Friday.

  3. My favorite car is Sally. I love that she gave up her fast paced life and moved to Radiator Springs because she wasn't happy.

  4. I love Mater, he cracks me up completely! I love that Larry the Cable Guy is his voice. He reminds me of some people I knew when I lived in the country! LOL!

  5. We are so excited to go and see Cars 2 on Friday as soon as we can get to the theater!! Mater's probably my favorite just because he's so sweet and lovable. I always think about when he meet McQueen and tells him he made a good choice about his best friend. My youngest was so excited to see Finn McMissle at the Cars 2 event at Downtown Disney a few weeks back.

  6. My fave Cars character is Mater. I love his rusty colors, Hill Billy twang, and botched syntax. Most of all, I love his philosophy of life: "Don't need to know where I'm going, just need to know where I've been."
Let's all go see Cars 2 and report back!

  8. I'll have to go with Mater as well. Being a southern girl from Bama, I completely understand his twang and "redneckness!"

  10. I've honestly not seen Cars yet (I saw the tractor tipping scene flipping through the channels the other night though). But it's on the way from Netflix so I can see it before seeing Cars 2 in the theaters. I am familiar with a few of the characters, and I really like Sarge since I'm a Jeep girl!

  12. I loved the "cameos" by famous people: Bob Costas as Bob Cutlass, Jay Leno as Jay Limo and the nods to real nascar drivers (who I know very little about). Plus the other Pixar star cameos - Woody, Buzz, etc

  13. My favorite was Mater :) I just loved his personality and goofiness. He's my son's favorite too and it's so fitting b/c my son is the most uncoordinated little man and I love him to death, probably why we both love Mater!! :)
