Hidden Surprises at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Resort

I'm thrilled to introduce Melissa from the Disney Hotels Fan Website with a Guest Post about Disney's Wilderness Lodge, another great resort that features Disney Vacation Club Villas.  Disney Hotels Fan is the go-to spot for information and news on your favorite Disney Resorts. Stop by to check them out regularly for updates on resort refurbishments, outdoor movie schedules, and more!

Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Resort is a deluxe resort located in the Magic Kingdom area at Walt Disney World. While its location is ideal for families, being so close to the Magic Kingdom, you'll feel as though you're a million miles from a theme park. The resort is surrounded by a dense forest and a natural 450 acre lake!

This beautiful lodge is modeled after Yellowstone National Park's Old Faithful Inn. There are 728 rooms at the Wilderness Lodge, all of them wonderfully themed with a log-cabin feel, carved headboards, granite vanity countertops, and balconies.

And the best part is: there are so many fun activities at the Wilderness Lodge Resort that your family might even want to schedule a few days just to enjoy the resort itself!

When you first arrive at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, be sure to ask at the front desk if there are any openings to be the flag family. If so, your family could be chosen to wake up very early, head to the tippy top of the Lodge with a Wilderness Lodge Cast Member, and raise the flags that fly over the Lodge every day: the American flag, the Florida State flag, the Walt Disney World flag and two Wilderness Lodge flags!

The Fire Rock Geyser is a must see at the Wilderness Lodge! Located between the Silver Creek Springs Pool and Bay Lake, the Fire Rock Geyser is fashioned after Old Faithful. Every hour, on the hour (during the day, of course), the geyser will shoot up to 120 feet in the air!

Your family will also love the Duck Races that happen on select afternoons at Silver Spings Pool. Pick a rubber duck and let it race down the rocky stream! You’ll yell and cheer as they float on, and the winning duck gets a prize!

If you have a little one in the family that loves trains, be sure to visit the Carolwood Pacific Room in the Wilderness Lodge Villas. Cars from the train that Walt Disney built in his backyard are housed here.

Throughout the day, the Wilderness Lodge also offers fun activities like cookie decorating, hula-hoop contests, Bingo, a hidden Mickey hunt, a Lodge Tour, chalk art and MORE!

Make sure to check at the front desk of the Wilderness Lodge Resort for times and a complete list of activities.

Have you ever stayed at the Wilderness Lodge Resort? What was your favorite family activity?
